EControl Syntax Editor - Powerful text editor with syntax highlighting.
This editor is built using EControl Syntax Editor SDK.

- Split screen;
- Customizable text folding;
- Customizable text structure tree view;
- Customizable keymapping;
- 100% customizable lexer (syntactical analyzer). Comfortable visual lexer editor;
- Nested lexers highlighting.Combining several lexers in one using "Sub Lexer" rules;
- Code templates;
- Auto-correction;
- Spell checking;
- Print/ print preview;
- Powerful search/replace (regular expressions, search all ...);
- Incremental search;
- Export in HTML/RTF with syntax highlighting;
- Copy selection to clipboard in RTF;
- Block staples (hierarchical text representation);
- User ranges allows custom lexer independent highlighting and text folding;
- Stack-based markers like in CodeRush;
- Unlimited bookmarks;
- Animation;
- Normal, column-oriented and line selection, clipboard operations;
- Right margin, persistent blocks, keep caret in text and numerous other options;

Highlighting features:
- Highlighting styles can use any font;
- Text region borders;
- Hiding parts of the text using Hidden attribute of the style;
- Multilevel style merging;
- Dynamical highlighting depended on caret position. Highlights valid blocks (for example, current procedure, brackets, "begin" ... "end" blocks ...);
- Line highlighting;
- Text partition by means of line separators like in Visual Basic IDE;

syntax highlight??

I encountered a major problem right at the beginning. The syntax highlight function is greyed out. How do I enable it??

Rapidly installed and worked

EControl syntax really does what promises. I installed quickly into my C++ Builder 6 and replaced the "TMemo" component in very little time. It is full of features beyond my real needs but it's nice to have them with it. If you have used the new Delphi or Borland Developer Studio interface, it gives the same editing features (and much more). The only thing that I don't like is that it's rather complex to build a grammar yer own. For my task, which is to give syntax-highligh in script language of my own, I just copied and modified the existing C++ grammar because, luckly, my language is similar to C.

I also have found two small bugs. One is that line numbers can't be aligned right despite choosing Align = alRight. The other bug is that you can't type "{" and "}" by ALT+0123 and ALT+0125 in the editor; I do that because in our keyboards we don't have such keys, so we are used to do the ALT+n combination.

Apart from that, it's a very quality component that I truly recommend. If you need syntax highlighting in Borland written programs, EContrl Syntax is the answer.

Great concept and tool!

A codeless lex and yacc built into a text editor! Terrific job. Hard to complain about a free tool, but on the other hand, hard to find much to complain about in the first place.

Pros...
To many to list here. Better to download and try it.

Only cons...
No VS/C# development
Help is too basic and not detailed enough. Needs a tutorial.

On a scale of 1-10
-innovation = 10
-intuitiveness = 9
-user usability = 9
-documentation = 6
-features = 10
-extensibility = 4 (Pascal and no VS/C# support)
